There's only one Josh Koroma...so where should Huddersfield Town play him?
Koroma has featured both at left wing-back and at centre-forward over the past few weeks, and the question comes down to where Town need him the most
Let’s be honest: Huddersfield Town needed to sign a left wing-back even before they lost their first choice to injury.
Michael Duff has spoken several times, going all the way back to the start of the summer, about how his 3-5-2 lives or dies by the quality of his wing-backs.
Town also lost their first-choice right-sider, Lasse Sorensen, to a hamstring injury in October from which he is just now making his return. However, Brodie Spencer and Ollie Turton have proved to be natural and capable replacements.
With all that considered, Mickel Miller may well be the biggest loss to long-term injury Town could have had at this stage of the season. This is especially true because the squad does not have a reliable out-and-out left-sided wing-back available as cover.
Jaheim Headley has the most comparable skillset to Miller on paper but has too often not looked the part this campaign. Meanwhile, Josh Ruffels is building back up his minutes after spending over nine months out with a groin injury and plays the role in a different way: as with Turton, his main strengths are outside the final third.
Miller is expected to miss three or four months with the knee injury he suffered against Leyton Orient last month. The transfer window will hopefully provide a solution to his absence.
In the meantime, Town have at least four more important games to get through and 12 vital points to claim in the promotion race. After a few different experiments, Michael Duff may well be satisfied that his first instinct for how to fill that role was the correct one.
