Town Women battle back from behind to beat Barnsley
Returning to the squad, captain Beth Stanfield's volley sealed victory for the Terriers
Huddersfield Town Women secured their first three points of 2025, in a chilly affair away in South Yorkshire. A first league goal in blue and white for Katie Astle, and a world beating effort from Beth Stanfield meant that Glen Preston’s side left Barnsley with a sweet victory.
Manager Glen Preston said:
"We needed that. I think this group of players needed it. It is a strange thing football, but like I have just said to the coaching staff, I actually think we needed to go a goal behind.
“Not that we deserved to go a goal behind, because we played well in the second half, but sometimes you need the character building kind of performance and result, and you need to show that you can come back from tough situations.
“Stanners is such a crucial player for us. We love Stanners and we call her a legend for a reason. It doesn’t matter where we play her, she puts in an unbelievable performance. She has really started to develop her leadership, she drives the team. In the second half she dragged the team kicking and screaming to victory today, so massive credit to her.”
