Town Women outplayed in the County Cup Final
Town will rue their missed chances, but Sheffield United Under 21s were the better side on the day
In their final match of the 2024/25 season, Huddersfield Town Women suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Sheffield United Under 21s in the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Cup Final.
A disappointing end to a very up and down season for Town Women. In truth, they have missed top scorer Charlotte Stuart, who has been missing with ankle injury for two months. However, regardless of who was or wasn’t on the field for Town, Sheffield United were fitter, stronger, and more organised.
Manager Glen Preston said:
“It’s a tough pill to swallow. It didn’t feel like a 5-0 game, there were finer margins, but I thought they were far superior in the final third compared to us.
“I thought they had a real threat on the counter-attack, with the pace and directness of their players.
“We identified that before the game that was their biggest threat. So, we knew going into it, they were going to be the challenges for us.
“But, once you get out there it is sometimes very difficult to deal with, and they were just very fast, and very direct, and very ruthless.”
