Town Women suffer first league defeat since September
Glen Preston's side succumb to late Durham charge
It had been a while since Town have lost at home, until this 1-0 defeat to Durham. Their impressive form in 2024 has been halted due to postponed fixtures and empty weekends. The commitment was evident, but Town did not possess enough killer instinct to come away with anything from the game.
Manager Glen Preston said: “I thought it was a really, really scrappy game and in part that is down to the pitch. It’s cut up and it’s got long grass; it’s bobbly.
“It favoured the transitional elements to the game, and I thought in the first half we were dominant, I thought we had the two or three moments to take the lead and I thought we were extremely passive in front of goal, trying to walk it in. We didn’t show ruthlessness in the final moments.
“In the second half, I thought they (Durham) went more blood and thunder in the press and wanted it a little bit more.
“That being said, I thought we managed that, and unfortunately it probably goes down as a goalkeeping error because I would say for a keeper of Kacey’s quality, I think that was probably a routine save to be honest.”
