Town Women win on the road again thanks to top-scorer Stuart
Huddersfield Town Women haven't lost away in the league since September 2024
Town Women travelled to take on York City Ladies for the second time this season, this time playing at the University of York Sports Complex. The Terriers were without striker Katie Astle who arrived from York City in January, as the two clubs had made an agreement for Astle to not be involved in this fixture.
Regardless, Town set-up in a different shape than what they have been operating in recently. Structured in a 3-4-3, with four players in a box midfield, Town clearly felt comfortable reducing their numbers in defence, opting to try and dominate the midfield instead.
Manager Glen Preston said:
“My overriding emotions are that I am really pleased.
“I think the players have had to graft, and graft they have today. I am absolutely delighted that I feel like we have got a team that’s got a complete work ethic. We have got the skill to outplay, and if we need it we have got absolute engines in abundance to make us a force in the last 20 to 30 minutes.
“We went for the most technical midfield that we could, because we wanted to keep the ball and play through. I think the Fylde game influenced that a little bit, because we played between the lines against Fylde but the end product was really lacking.
“So, we tried to get Caz (Simone) between the lines a bit more, but ultimately where they really flourished today was getting in behind, which I didn’t expect. I think they got in behind four or five times today, which shows the intelligence of their runs.”
