Town Women's 2024/25 League campaign comes to an end
Town Women suffered a 4-0 loss away at Donny Belles in their final league fixture
It was certainly an afternoon to forget for Glen Preston’s side as they conceded four goals away from home, at the already relegated Doncaster Rovers Belles. With nothing riding on the game, we aren’t going to dive too much into what went wrong here for Town, and hope that it was just a case of fatigue at the end of a tough season.
However, Town Women will have to deliver a better performance than this one if they are to win the County Cup Final in just over a weeks time. With time to recover between now and then, and Glen Preston hopeful of some players returning to availability, Town mustn’t dwell on this result and must look ahead.
Manager Glen Preston said:
“I don’t take too much from that game, to be honest. We wanted to see the season out well and we haven’t done. It was probably the worst performance I have seen since going back to Newcastle just over a year ago.
“I don’t think the heart and soul were in the performance today. It looked like an end of season game where we were on our holidays already, or perhaps too many players had half a mind on the cup final.
“I am excited for the cup final but it’s hard to be in a good mood at the moment given the performance I have just witnessed, but as I said to the players then, I don’t want to dwell on this performance too much. I don’t think it’s reflective of who we are, so I want to move on and think about the next game in front of us.”
