What now for Alfie May and Joe Taylor at Huddersfield Town?

The two strikers' arrivals were celebrated last year, but things didn’t pan out as expected. Is there still a future for them after Ashley Fletcher's signing?

One big question facing Chris Markham and Martin Drury this summer was whether to reshape the squad around Joe Taylor and Alfie May, or to double down on what Radulovic had shown them worked with their current setup.

Town’s move to sign Ashley Fletcher suggests they may prefer option B.

If you’d looked through the League One squads at the end of last summer, you would be forgiven for thinking that Huddersfield Town had perhaps the best centre-forward choices in the division.

Joe Taylor and Alfie May had both proved to be prolific goalscorers at this level. Both had been courted the previous summer, only for Town to be made to wait for their arrival: until January for Taylor, and another six months for May.

We’d seen so little of Taylor in a Town shirt the previous campaign that it felt like an exciting, entirely new strike partnership had been assembled.

Only it didn’t work out that way.
