Jacob Chapman - 7
Mostly faced shots straight at him when Cambridge were able to get past a stubborn Town defence. Good distribution on a difficult pitch.
Tom Lees - 8
Preferred to Matty Pearson at centre-back. Forced a save out of Vicente Reyes with an early header, with David Kasumu converting the rebound.
Michal Helik - 8
Tested by the Cambridge press in the opening minutes but kept his composure and made some necessary blocks when the hosts were able to get into the box. Stayed forward and won a vital knockdown off a long ball to set Town on their way to their second.
Brodie Spencer - 8
Deployed at centre-back as the most like-for-like replacement for the suspended Nigel Lonwijk. Had waited so long for his first Town goal against Lincoln only to make it two in two here, meeting Callum Marshall’s cross with a guided header. Strong in the tackle and won some important one-v-one challenges. Ended the game at left-back and looked like he could have gone for another 90 minutes.
Ollie Turton - 7
Impressive work rate, as we’ve come to expect, working hard to close down Cambridge players quickly.
Herbie Kane - 8
Hard-working shift and was able to show his quality on the ball at times, offering himself as the fulcrum for a lot of Town’s work in the final third. Played some lovely balls over the top for Koroma and Marshall. Composed at number 6 as Town saw out the game and the clean sheet.
David Kasumu - 8
Got to the loose ball first to stab in Town’s set-piece opener on 13 minutes. Could have no complaints about his yellow card for a high boot a few minutes later. Won numerous challenges around the edge of the Town box and was quick about getting the ball forward to turn defence into counter-attack.
Josh Koroma - 7
Returned to left wing-back, as expected, and looked dangerous with his direct running up that side. End product not quite there but did plenty to help Town sustain their attacks, and forced a good saved out of Reyes before Marshall put away the rebound. Finished the game on the left wing in a 4-3-3.
Ben Wiles - 7
Great delivery on the corner from which Town broke the deadlock, and hit the bar before Marshall finished it off. Good movement to get away from his man in between the lines and worked hard off the ball.
Callum Marshall - 9
Returned the favour to Spencer from last weekend by setting him up to score Town’s second goal, then just a few minutes later showed quick reactions to bundle home the rebound after Wiles hit the crossbar. Really impressive with his work receiving long balls and playing little knockdowns, and made that pay off as he played a phenomenal ball over the top for Koroma to shoot from, then chased into the box to finish off the rebound. Looks in confident form at the moment and has the goals to prove it — he’s now got four plus an assist in his last five outings.
Danny Ward - 7
Good work up the right before putting in the ball from which Town got their third.
Substitutes
Freddie Ladapo (for Ward 61) - Again caused problems with his running to stretch the play - he’s getting there on that front. Sharp turn and pass to provide Kane witha shot and unlucky not to be able to reach the rebound from Koroma’s shot, which Marshall then put home instead. 6
Tom Iorpenda (for Kasumu 78) - Far more assured than his last outing and put himself about well both on and off the ball. Tested the keeper with a late effort after making a good run into the box. 6
Conor Falls (for Koroma 90+2) - Came on for his senior debut for the club. n/a
Unused substitutes: Chris Maxwell, Matty Pearson, Jaheim Headley, Josh Ruffels.
