Huddersfield Town announce Lasse Sorensen as first summer signing
The Lincoln City wing-back is the first new face through the door in the Michael Duff era
Lasse Sorensen has joined Huddersfield Town from League One rivals Lincoln City for an undisclosed fee, signing a three-year deal at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Our scouting report on Sorensen shows the former Denmark youth international as an attack-minded right wing-back, claiming four goals and eight assists in League One last year.
The 24 year old has played over 100 League One games and was linked with several Championship clubs ahead of the January transfer window, but now becomes the first new arrival of the summer following the club’s relegation to the third tier and the appointment of new head coach Michael Duff.
The Town gaffer said in a club statement: “When I joined the club I spoke of three non-negotiable qualities I want to recognise in all of my players and my team as a whole: to be fit, strong and organised. Lasse ticks all of those boxes for me, and is a player I’ve long admired as a result.
“With a great knowledge of the league, a strong desire to improve, push himself and grow with the club, he is exactly the type of character we want to introduce to our dressing room and have out there fighting for every point possible.
“Having worked closely with [assistant coach] Kevin Russell previously, his character reference couldn’t have been stronger, and I’m really looking forward to seeing him with us on the training pitch when pre-season begins next week.”
Sorensen said: “As soon as I became aware of the interest from Town, I knew that this was the direction I wanted my career to go in. Having improved a lot and learned so much from my time with Lincoln, I felt that this was the right time for a new challenge, especially with such a great club.
“There is a pressure and expectation ahead of the new season, but that’s part of the attraction for me to join and something I find exciting. I know where this team wants to be and where we should be, and I’m really motivated to play my part in that journey.
“All the conversations I’ve had with the sporting director and head coach have given me a great feeling about joining Town, and I can feel their ambition having now had the chance to look around the training facilities and stadium. I can’t wait to get started soon, and look forward to meeting our incredible supporters in pre-season!”
Sporting director Mark Cartwright added: “Lasse is a player that we identified early on alongside Michael, and we’ve had a real appetite to get the deal over the line in good time ahead of pre-season, so we’re delighted to have him sign.
“With over 100 games in Sky Bet League One, he knows this division well, and has the work ethic Michael has made clear is one of his priorities. Lasse fits the profile of both the type of player and person we want at the Club going forward, and the testimony Kevin Russell has shared having worked with him previously gives us huge encouragement.
“Arriving on the back of a strong season with Lincoln, he is still entering his prime as a player and has all of the tools to become an even better footballer within our coaching and physical performance programme.”
Town are expected to have a busy transfer window ahead of the 2024/25 season with both new incomings and player sales on the cards as they aim to push for an immediate return to Championship action.
