Why Huddersfield Town are going big on midfield signings this summer
Two new arrivals have come in since Jack Rudoni's departure while Jonathan Hogg has re-signed and others are expected to offer more next season. So why are they looking for more?
Huddersfield Town needed new midfield recruits this summer: that much was obvious from the beginning.
Jack Rudoni’s subsequent departure for Coventry City only exacerbated that need. The club duly responded by bringing in not just one replacement, but two, in the shape of Herbie Kane and Antony Evans.
There have been promising signs in pre-season — for what that’s worth — from Ben Wiles and Tom Iorpenda, while Jonathan Hogg has signed a new contract and David Kasumu remains a reliable and proven option. That’s to say nothing of Sorba Thomas and Josh Austerfield also being given midfield auditions.
And yet, Town look to be in the market for further midfield reinforcements. Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Joe Hodge has been plausibly linked with a loan move, for instance.
In Kane, Evans, Wiles and Kasumu alone, Town already have four midfielders who have shown they are more than capable of making an impact in League One. So, to ask a rhetorical question, why are they looking for more?
