Huddersfield Town scouting report as Will Alves arrives on deadline day
The Terriers have completed the loan signing of the highly-rated young Leicester City playmaker
Huddersfield Town have completed the signing of Leicester City playmaker Will Alves on a season-long loan.
The Terriers announced the deal on transfer deadline day after the 20-year-old made his only appearance of the new season against them in the Carabao Cup, playing the first half of the second round tie at Accu Stadium.
Alves spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan in the Championship, enjoying his first spell of sustained first team football with Cardiff City. He can play either as a left winger or as a number 10.
Town manager Lee Grant said: “Will is a gifted young attacking player with heaps of potential, and his desire to improve, be involved and impact games could not have been more evident in the conversations we’ve enjoyed before finalising this move. I’m looking forward to working closely with him alongside our coaches to help harness and unlock more of that ability within games.
“We are in a very fortunate position to have completed the majority of our transfer activity before the season started, but we have stayed alive to any opportunities we felt would make the group as a whole better rounded, and Will fits that profile exactly.
“Able to fulfil multiple positions within the final third, his versatility lends itself to the tactical and positional flexibility we have already shown on multiple occasions this season.
“Fit and ready to train with us and begin learning our ideas and principles, we look forward to getting him up to speed as quickly as possible with the fixture list full of challenges in the coming days, weeks and months.”
New Huddersfield Town signing Will Alves said: “After hearing about the interest and then talking about the vision of the club with manager Lee Grant, I had zero hesitation in saying yes to this move. Having experienced the intensity, hunger and quality of the team already for myself this season, that was something I was really keen on becoming a part of and contributing to.
“I’m an attack-minded player and love impacting games with goals and assists, so that’s what I want to bring for Town this season. The team have started brilliantly and there is quality and depth in almost every position, so I know that I’ll need to be at my best each and every day here which is an appealing challenge.
“There is a special feeling and atmosphere around the players, staff and supporters, and I hope I can do my part to add to that across the season. I have high standards and big ambitions of my own that are clearly matched by the club, so I can’t wait to get going as a Terrier.”

Will Alves scouting report: Stats, where he fits in and what to expect
Former Leicester and Huddersfield striker Iwan Roberts once compared Alves to former Foxes winger Harvey Barnes, which is a profile we can easily imagine slotting into Town’s line-up very nicely indeed.
The new signing is renowned for his individual technique after fleeting childhood success in the weird and wonderful world of football freestyle.
